Celsion and students from Zittau: Working together for the protection of species
Due to deforestation, pest infestations in recent years, persistent drought, and associated wildfires, the number of healthy forests has drastically reduced and the tree population has declined sharply. At the same time, fewer and fewer old buildings or abandoned structures are being found. These environmental changes have a significant impact on the bat population. At Celsion, we have collaborated with students from Schlieben School in Zittau (Germany) to build bat boxes. These will be installed during 2024 at suitable locations to protect bat species and preserve their habitat.
Our sustainability progress in 2023
Again in 2023, we conducted the comprehensive KIM sustainability analysis in collaboration with Sustainium Consulting as part of our business activities. This analysis covered environmental, social, and economic aspects and also included an assessment of our business management (Governance). This comprehensive analysis enables us, as well as you as our valued partners, to transparently present our sustainability performance. We are proud to announce that our sustainability factor has increased by an impressive 11%. This progress highlights our conviction at Celsion that we are on the right track. Looking ahead, we are determined to continue working hard and to fulfil our responsibility towards people and the environment to the best of our ability. We would like to express our sincere thanks to you, our business partners, and to our dedicated employees. This is a shared journey, and we deeply appreciate your support along the way.
Saving the last lapwings in Saxony
We are happy to announce that Celsion is supporting this important project. Led by Karsten Peterlein from NABU Leipzig, the project is dedicated to protect the lapwing. Once widespread, this bird species is now critically endangered. In Saxony, it has seen an alarming decline of over 90% in the last 40 years. We support NABU Leipzig's unique rewetting project, which is creating puddles and temporary water bodies on a 1-hectare area to restore the habitat for the lapwing. This area is not only intended to bring the lapwing back to the Leipzig area, but also to serve as a resting area for migratory birds and provide habitat for amphibians and insects. We are proud to be part of this nature conservation project and to contribute to the preservation of the lapwing and the furtherance of biodiversity in Saxony. We look forward to the progress of this project and the return of the lapwing to our region.
The SaBeNa sustainability scheme
The sustainability model SaBeNa (Saxony's companies become sustainability experts) was implemented from October 2021 to June 2022 by the Sustainum Consulting. 12 companies from different industries agreed not only to evaluate their sustainability performance with SUSTAINUM Consulting, but also to develop customised sustainability programmes. Minister of State Wolfram Günther then presented certificates to the participating companies, including Celsion Brandschutzsysteme GmbH.

Economy and ecology in and around our products
As a company, we strive to make our products and services as economical and ecological as possible. We pay attention to every stage in the life cycle of our products and services, from production through to customer delivery – and beyond if possible. To ensure our supply chain is sustainable, we have optimised our delivery routes and make sure to use the most efficient and environmentally friendly transport methods possible. We have also revised our packaging and reduced the use of plastic by 20%. The materials we use for our packaging are fully recyclable. We are also constantly optimising our production processes in order to protect machines and exploit the energy potential. We rely on renewable energies and do not use fossil raw materials to heat our production facilities.
Electric-powered vehicles have been added to our fleet to minimise our environmental impact. Our newly developed products, such as our QUBE – a safety enclosure for bicycle batteries – support the European sustainability concept and the promotion of e-mobility. At Celsion, we want to take a leading role in implementing sustainable business practices. We are proud that we do not just put thought into our products and services; we also focus on our responsibility towards our environment. We will continue to work hard to improve our business processes and have a positive impact on the world around us.
Green wherever you look
Discover the nature of the Eastern Ore Mountains – the Grüne Liga Osterzgebirge eV, the region's environmental association, warmly invites you to do so. Without doubt, the Eastern Ore Mountains are blessed with a very rich and diverse natural environment that is rarely or not found elsewhere. Unfortunately, this is no longer a matter of course, as the nature of the Eastern Ore Mountains is threatened from many sides. As a regional environmental association, members and supporters are involved in preserving this unique region. As a Saxon company, we are delighted to support nature conservation in the Eastern Ore Mountains with a donation.
